SWAP Volunteer

One of the main aims of SWAP is raise awarenss of enviromental and social issues overseas. This is acheived primarily through supporting organisations overseas that are offering a wide range of volunteer projects in surfing destinations. For 2008 SWAP is offering volunteer placements in the Mentawais, Ecuador and South Africa.

Mentawais

The projects based on Siloinak island are aimed to continue the conservation the Mentawai environment through coral reef conservation and turtle hatchery. Further projects are aimed to further the involvement of the local community within the tourism industry and offer them the opportunities to be employed. Rebuilding the homes of the Mentawais is effectively aiming to introduce traditional building methods that are ultimatel more withstandable to seismic activity. Mentawai Adventure is hoping through these projects, people will become more aware of the unique culture and the fragility of both the environment and the people and the ultimate need for minimal impact in the area. Currently Swap offers a range of volunteer placements. From the secluded island eco-resort of Siloinak in the Mentawais to the idyllic beach town of Jeffreys Bay.
