ProAves is a Colombian NGO dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats through research, outreach and direct conservation actions in collaboration with local communities.

ProAves aims to help and contribute to the recovering of ecosystems of bird's species under threat in Colombia. By working together with local communities in zones of influence of our programs, we had helped to provide opportunities for training and ways to improve the use of natural resources. The Division of Conservation at ProAves is directed by Heidy Valle and the support of 9 Reserve Coordinators and 12 conservation assistants, focused on activities such as the protection of the reserves, reforestation and sustainable development with the communities.

ProAves has implemented different conservation tools as follows:

ProAves is a non-profit organisation that was set up in 1998. It was created to protect birds and their habitats in Colombia and the organisation sought to do this through research, conservation actions and community outreach.

Considering that the community is able to lead numerous conservation actions, ProAves has launched its Eco-volunteer Program in its natural reserves; this program will allow conservationists (national or foreigners) to help us carry out specific conservation actions to protect extremely important habitats for critical bird species in Colombia.

ProAves have several objectives with the Ecovolunteer program such as to improve and guarantee the sustainability of the work that is being done in Colombia, allowing the reserves to be run efficiently for years to come. Also being an indispensable feature of the reserves, helping with everything from maintenance to research. We know that the role that volunteers play in conservation cannot be overstated.

Volunteer positions are held at three of our wonderful natural reserves: El Dorado, El Paujil and Cerulean warbler.

Many options to volunteer are available for passionate and committed people who want to support conservation actions through activities such as reforestation, eradication of non-native species, agroforestry, reserve maintenance, tree nurseries, nest boxing, bird monitoring, etc. In order to apply to these positions, personal skills, experiences, studies and preferences will be strongly evaluated.

We need your help and because we know you can do a lot for conservation, ¡sign up here!
